Electronic Systems Engineer II

As an Electronics Systems Engineer for Dorman, you will implement and coordinate projects that will support the development and improvement of automotive electronics. Additional responsibilities include designing and performing testing and analysis of automotive electronics, writing detailed technical reports, reviewing technical documentation, reviewing schematics, layouts, and firmware, and creating electrical prototype boards that aid in reverse engineering or performing tests. Coordinate internal and external product testing. Analyze test data and reports to determine if a design meets functional, reliability, and quality requirements. Design and implement test plans to reverse engineer the functional behavior of automotive electronic modules and sensors. Research vehicle electrical systems to gain an understanding of their operation. Identify modules and sensors needed to recreate a vehicle system on a test bench. Order the appropriate components and set up/wire up the system such that they function as if it were installed on a vehicle. Direct, coordinate, or fabricate prototype printed circuit board sample builds. Perform reviews of schematics, printed circuit board layouts, and C code. Decode vehicle communication bus traffic for CAN bus, SAE J1850, LIN bus, and K-Line. Travel to local external automotive repair facilities and work with technicians for on-vehicle product testing. Create functional specifications and test plans that are clear, concise, and organized. Qualifications Solid foundation in core electrical engineering concepts. Excellent problem-solving skills. Able to read and understand electrical schematics. Able to explain circuit function from electrical schematics. Experience with power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, etc Experience soldering components to printed circuit boards and splicing wires. Knowledge of vehicle communication protocols such as CAN bus, SAE j1850 LIN bus, K-Line. Experience in writing and debugging code, especially C, and flashing code to hardware. Experience with microcontrollers and microcontroller peripherals, clocks, timers, ADC, interrupts, etc Experience with Altium Designer or other ECAD software. Knowledge of PWM driven solenoids, Hall effect sensors, brushed and brushless DC motors, H-bridge motor control. Knowledge of automotive and vehicle electronic hardware a plus. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Access. Education / Experience BS in Electrical Engineering or MS in Electrical Engineering. At least 5 years work in electrical engineering/electronic systems engineering, or other equivalent experience.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
